Notes: The Yes tribute band Parallels recorded several Yes songs in
2007, with (1) and (4) being the only two surviving. Holzman then
offered to remix (1), to give (7). The album is expanded by various
tracks by Morse. (2) was recorded after Parallels had split up, but
Morse drew on Parallels alumni among others for this recording. He
was inspired by hearing Yes's version of the song to combine their
arrangement, Anderson's solo arrangement and some of their own
ideas. Morse recorded (6) single-handedly, with (5) a short guitar
piece he thought would work well as an intro.
Morse was one of many musicians who collaborated with Anderson
online. There was a plan, that never saw fruition, for Parallels to
be Anderson's backing band for some live shows. Anderson had Morse
work on arrangements for three pieces of music: "Open" (then called
"Opening"), "The Knowing" and a third that has yet to be released.
Morse explained, "However, after a few months of working together he
asked to put the project on hold; shortly afterwards ARW was
announced and then he later finished the work on Open with a local
collaborator Stefan Podell. Please note what you hear on this album
is sketches of our work together and is not finished work. Having
said that, I'm particularly proud of the section that starts around
4:14-4:40 (somewhat reminiscent of the Yes song New Language)." This
is a remaster of a piece that previously appeared on Morse's limited
release compilation Miscellanea (2019). (HP, 4 Aug 22)
