Notes: (****) Rabin's eponymous debut was first released in South
Africa
as Beginnings, before being
re-released
with some changes as Trevor Rabin. Voiceprint then
re-released the
album under the Beginnings name, but with this track list,
in 2003.
The 2020 Gonzo Multimedia release confounds both names, calling
it Beginnings aka Trevor Rabin in advertising and Trevor
Rabin (Beginnings) in physical form, but is again the Trevor
Rabin version. It was remastered by John Hughes. The 2020
version adds two bonus tracks: "Getting to Know You Better (single
edit)" (3:20) and "Stay with Me (single edit)" (3:18). These
appear to be needle drops taken directly from vinyl.
Having released Beginnings first in South Africa, Rabin
moved to the UK. There, the album was remixed by Gary Edwards, it
was re-ordered, two songs were dropped ("Could There Be" and "Love
Alone", both ballads), one was re-worked and re-named (2 was "I
Love You"), and one was added (3; presumably which had been
recorded at the same time but not used on Beginnings).
Release came in the autumn. Promo outside South Africa made no
mention of Rabin's history and huge success there. In an era of
punk, sales were poor.
Singles were "Getting to Know You Better" (seemingly an edit of
the original Beginnings mix); and "Painted Picture" (b/w
"Stay with Me").
Godfrey is Trevor's father. (HP, with information provided by Don J. Thorpe and from the Rabinesque blog, 8 Feb 03, updated 27 Jun 20)
