Notes: (1) was recorded for the soundtrack to the film 2001 "Pearl Harbor". It was released as a single (21 May 2001), on Pearl Harbor Soundtrack (22 May; where the rest of the music was from the score by Hans Zimmer), on this compilation (8 Oct) and then, in 2007, on Hill's The Hits. The US single was backed with (3) on vinyl and (8) on CD. The European CD single had (8) and (16). There was a music video by Michael Bay, who directed "Pearl Harbor" and set the video in the same time period. The song had first been offered to Celine Dion. It's a not particularly romantic power ballad to my ears, with only occasional touches of that Horn production sound. But plenty of others liked it! It got a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (losing to Nelly Furtado's "I'm Like a Bird", which is a far superior song) and an Oscar nominaton for Best Original Song (losing to Randy Newman's "If I Didn't Have You" from "Monsters, Inc.").

The single was Hill's highest charting in the UK (#3) and Ireland (#3). It re-entered the UK (#10) and Irish (#29) charts on downloads only in Sep 2008 after a contestant on "The X Factor" sang it. It re-entered the UK chart again in 2012, making #47. It made #10 in the US, including #1 in the Adult Contemporary chart. It made #6 in Europe. It also made #1 in Canada, Portugal and Sweden, #2 in Flanders (Belgium), #4 in the Netherlands and Norway, #5 in Austria, Switzerland and Wallonia (Belgium), #7 in Denmark, #8 in Germany, #11 in Italy and New Zealand, #14 in Spain and Finland. In the 2001 year-end charts, it made #10 in Sweden, #23 in Flanders (Belgium), #30 in Austria, #31 in Ireland, #32 in Switzerland, #35 in the Netherlands, #49 in Germany, #52 in the UK, and #66 in the US (#13 in Adult Contemporary, and #19 in Adult Contemporary for 2002). It was certified Platinum in the UK and Sweden, and Gold in Belgium.

Because of the success of the song and other recent singles, this compilation album was released in the UK and Australia later in the year, preceded by a single of (3). (15) and (16) were only on the Australian release; details for those are from Wikipedia. The album also sold well, making #3 in Ireland, #5 in Australia and Denmark, #6 in the UK, #8 in Flanders (Belgium), #10 in Sweden, #11 in Austria, #12 in Norway, #13 in Switzerland, #14 in Germany, #16 in New Zealand, #18 in Portugal, #24 in Finland, and #83 in the Netherlands. It was #14 in Europe. It also made the 2001 year-end charts: #45 in Australia, #81 in the UK and #85 in Sweden. It went 5 times Platinum in Australia, and (single) Platinum in the UK and Portugal.

Muhoberac and Pierce were regular Horn collaborators. The David Foster on some tracks is the other one, not the one who was in The Warriors and Badger. (HP, 12 Feb 22)
