Notes: Bill Bruford kicked off the process Robert Fripp was to call 'fraKctalisation' when he suggested playing a series of live shows with Fripp. That plan became a quartet with Levin and Gunn, later titled ProjeKct One, but Fripp expanded the idea to a series of line-ups drawn from the then six members of King Crimson (Bruford, Fripp, Levin, Gunn, Belew, Mastelotto) to act, as Fripp put it, as R&D projects for the full band. Thus came ProjeKcts Two, Three and Four, but not in that order, and later ProjeKct X. Bruford later complained of the name, saying in a 2002 interview: "I hate that word project that you hear a lot. I don’t do projects. Crimson wasn’t a project and neither is Earthworks. These are life. You know, the way you work at it you want to work hard at it. The word project somehow puts it down. I’m living it. You’re listening, talking to musicians, practicing, rehearsing, working – it’s a full time gig. No doubt about it."
As well as this 4CD boxset, a 1CD reduction was released as The Deception of the Thrush. (HP, 17 Jun 2002)
