Notes: Trevor Horn and the Pet Shop Boys are re-united having last worked together on 1988's Introspective. Many of Horn's usual crew are here, including (Magnification producer) Tim Weidner, Anne Dudley, Lalo Creme (Lol's son), Jamie Muhoberac, Tim Pierce, Steve Lipson, Tessa Niles, Phil Palmer, Earl Harvin, Lucinda Barry, Frank Ricotti and Louis Jardim. Also notable is Steve Howe's son Virgil on (2, 7). "Numb" had originally been planned for the band's compilation PopArt, but it wasn't used in the end.
This special edition version of the album includes a second disc (Fundamentalism) with 8 remixes. Fundamentalism is also available over two 12"s, but with a different remix of "Minimal", "Minimal (Tiga's M-I-N-I-M-A-L remix)". The Japanese Fundamentalism bonus disc includes both "Minimal" remixes and "I'm with Stupid (PSB Maxi-Mix)". Demo versions of "I'm with Stupid" and "Sodom..." before Horn's input were made available exclusively through iTunes. The debut single was "I'm with Stupid" (top ten in the UK, Sweden and Finland), with the second single due to be "Minimal". The album entered the UK chart at #5.
On 22 May, the Pet Shop Boys played an exclusive London show for the BBC Radio 2 Sold on Song series. The live band was Trevor Horn (bass, musical director), Anne Dudley (keys, piano), Pete Gleadall (programming), Phil Palmer, Paul Robinson (drums), Lol Creme (backing vocals and, I presume, guitar), Stephen Lipson, Lucinda Barry (backing vocals) et al. and backed by the BBC Concert Orchestra (conducted by Nick Ingman). Guests included Robbie Williams (on "Jealousy"), Rufus Wainwright and Frances Barber; the set included "It's a Sin", "Jealousy", "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk", "Dreaming of the Queen", "After All", "Numb" and other material from Fundamental.
